We're looking for an Infrastructure MS SQL Engineer to join a highly respected organisation to work as part of a team to deliver MS SQL operational support as well as capability for a range of projects. The successful candidate will lead complex solution delivery for IT projects, working with in-house development teams and/or third parties to design, develop and implement infrastructure solutions.

Key Technologies

Experience of the following technologies with the aptitude to take on the development and support of new technologies and vendors: -

  • Experience of SQL Server 2008/2012 and 2014
  • Working knowledge of HADR technologies such as Always On Availability Groups, Database Mirroring and Log Shipping
  • Experience in SSRS reports and SSAS
  • Excellent troubleshooting and performance tuning skills
  • Experience of table partitioning and Index management
  • Experience in Windows Powershell and T-SQL coding
  • Documentation skills for processes and procedures ( creating KBs, runbooks, topology etc )

The ideal candidate should also have an understanding, and ideally experience of: -

  • Cloud infrastructures and the concept of Software Defined Data Centre.

As the ideal candidate you will possess experience of 24/7 operations in a similar sized organisation. You will have specialist knowledge of the following technologies with the aptitude to take on the development and support of new technologies and vendors: -

  • Experience of any other database technologies such as Oracle 11g/12c, IBM DB2 or MongoDB

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • 3rd line MS SQL Server support in production and development environments
  • BAU maintenance
  • Application project support
  • Database capacity planning
  • Database design and implementation
  • Database tuning and performance monitoring
  • Monitor database Servers to ensure overall resilience and integrity
  • Implement and maintain database security
  • Establish and maintain sound backup and recovery policies and procedures
  • Installation, configuration and upgrading of software
  • Some tasks will require a degree of weekend and evening work to support the infrastructure
